This pure cane juice rum celebrates the richness of Polynesian terroir and the exceptional quality of O’Tahiti sugarcane. Thriving in expansive fields, this unique variety allows for precise manual harvesting and cutting. The cane is crushed only once, with no added water, producing an intensely aromatic juice ready for fermentation. Over 6 to 8 days, the vesou reaches a 7% ABV before embarking on a journey by schooner to the Manutea Tahiti distillery on Moorea Island. Here, a meticulous batch distillation reveals refined, elegant notes of mint, licorice, and pear. This traditional craft requires the master distiller’s expertise to adjust each cut, separating heads and tails to capture only the heart of the distillation, preserving the full aromatic character of O’Tahiti cane.
The final touch, three months of aeration and slow reduction, gently refines the spirit before bottling.

Sugarcane originated in New Guinea and was introduced to Polynesia between 500 and 1100 AD by Oceanian voyagers navigating double-hulled canoes. In Polynesia, these cane plants thrived in ideal conditions. European explorers later transported this unique O’Tahiti cane to the Caribbean and Réunion, where it became the primary sugarcane variety in the 19th century before being replaced by more resilient, productive hybrids. With Quintessence, Manutea Tahiti offers an authentic experience of this noble cane, refined through six months of vat aging and slow, drip-by-drip reduction. Ia Ora na e Maeva !
This pure cane juice rum honors the Polynesian terroir and the exceptional quality of O’Tahiti sugarcane. This unique variety thrives in vast fields, where each cane is carefully hand-harvested and cut. While most of the distilled rum is crafted as white, a select portion is aged in oak barrels. The “sous bois” rum matures for 15 months in Heaven Hill Distillery’s bourbon casks from Kentucky, undergoing a slow reduction. Polynesian angels claim their share, with an angel’s share reaching 7% of the initial volume. In the tropical climate, the aging process accelerates, making 15 months here comparable to three years in temperate zones. This alchemy imbues the rum with a golden hue and rich, woody notes. Manutea Tahiti’s “sous bois” rum draws from a heritage of pure sugarcane rums from Martinique and Guadeloupe, embodying their craftsmanship.
Enjoy it over ice, or try it in a Ti’Punch (sugar/lime), Cuba Libre (cola/lime), or Old Fashioned (maple syrup, orange zest, bitters).
Vanilla tahitensis, the orchid behind Tahitian vanilla, is harvested at peak maturity and celebrated as the world’s most aromatic and fruity vanilla. Prized by top chefs for its soft, floral notes, it lends a unique character to Manutea Tahiti’s pure cane juice rum. Aged for at least six months in French oak barrels previously used for Tahitian vanilla extract, this rum acquires a rich copper hue and indulgent flavors of anise and caramel, distinct to Vanilla tahitensis. With this creation, Manutea Tahiti offers a smooth, generous pure cane juice rum—a true invitation to savor Polynesian excellence. Ia Ora na e Maeva !

A minimum of three years in oak barrels is required to achieve the “rhum vieux” designation. This V.O. (Very Old) Single Cask expression of Manutea Tahiti pure cane juice rum is drawn from a single Banyuls barrel—a French fortified wine cask from the South of France that imparts a luxurious profile of dried fruits, notably prune and fig, accented by roasted undertones of coffee and cacao. Barrel maturation adds layers of spice, tobacco, and leather to the cane spirit, creating a full-bodied rum with balanced sweetness and a long, lingering finish where the licorice notes of O’Tahiti cane harmonize with candied prune. With this creation, Manutea Tahiti offers a smooth, generous pure cane juice rum, inviting you to savor its craftsmanship. Ia Ora na e Maeva!
Cask Strength means that the rum has not been reduced (diluted with water) after the aging stage. It is bottled at its natural strength and thus reveals the full intensity of its aromas. Our cellar masters invite you to discover the meeting of this Bourbon barrel from the Heaven Hill family distillery in Kentucky with our cane brandy distilled in Moorea. A little over 3 years of aging were necessary to achieve the perfect balance between power and flavor where notes of caramel, vanilla and blond tobacco are strongly expressed on a spicy woody note.
